Top Fictional Colleges (That I Wish I Could Attend)

By Sarah Hearon on September 17, 2014

While I love being a student at The Ohio State University, I find myself mesmerized by the colleges portrayed on TV. And if any of these fictional schools existed, I might have to transfer.

Worthington University: Joey Potter from Dawson’s Creek worked very hard in high school to get into this fake Ivy League in Boston, and the hard work didn’t stop once she was in. She spent nights in the library, worked on challenging papers and, most importantly, tried to balance a social life and straight A’s.

Boston Bay: Jack and Jen from Dawson’s Creek went to another fictional school in Boston, spending their time at parties and working for the campus radio station. They also decided not to live on campus and made living with your grandma seem better than dorm life.

John Adam’s College: Another Boston gem, Sabrina (the Teenage Witch), went to John Adam’s College (nickname: Adam’s) and lived in a house with her new friends Roxie and Morgan. Sabrina continued to struggle with her magic and love life, while also spending a lot of time in the campus coffee shop and visiting her Aunt Zelda, who worked at Adam’s as a professor.

California University: Zack, Slater, Screech and Kelly ditched Bayside (and Lisa and Jesse) in Saved by Bell: The College Years and headed off to California University. The boys and girls lived in separate dorm rooms that were connected by the biggest lounge in (fictional) college history and hung out with their ex-football player RA Mike Rogers. The Beverly Hills, 90210 gang also attended CU, and had a more dramatic experience. Frat parties, love triangles, cults and drug addictions were just the beginning of what Brandon, Brenda, Dylan, Kelly, David, Steve and Donna went through.

University of California, Sunnydale: A fictional branch of a real school, UC Sunnydale is the place to go if you’re looking for some excitement. Whether it’s silent heart-stealing demons, beer that turns you into a cavemen or a professor that doubles as the leader of the government’s secret initiative, Buffy and her Scooby Gang were never bored. They also never graduated (probably because they never had time to study).

Pennbrook University: The main reason to attend Pennbrook University? A chance to have Mr. Feeny be your professor, of course.  Cory, Topanga and Shawn spend a lot of time playing pool and studying in the bookstore, but the best moments at PU were spent in the classroom learning from Mr. Fee Hee Heeny.

Cyprus-Rhodes University: Set in Ohio, Cyprus-Rhodes is the place to be if you’re interested in Greek life. Casey Cartwright and her brother Rusty worked hard to make their sorority/fraternity their top property, but also had to manage their (messy) personal lives and grades. Life at Cyprus was so good, students like Cappie tried not to graduate.

Hollis College: The possibility of all of the students looking like Ezra Fitz is reason enough to go to the fictional college in Pretty Little Liars. Just make sure that when you go to the campus bar you order boysenberry pie and board Shorts Ale. Cool fact: the exterior of the school is actually Ohio State’s University Hall.

Smithdale University: When Emma, Manny and Liberty (finally) graduated from Degrassi Community School and headed off to Smithdale, they all decided to room together and stay friends. Despite being placed with a random male roommate and struggling through sorority rush, the girls made the most of their time at Smithdale (until Emma got kicked out for pot brownies and Manny decides to run off to Hollywood).

Hearst College: If you’re looking to have a few life mysteries solved, Hearst is the place for you. Veronica Mars continued to solve crimes and investigate during her time at school, but she still kept an active social life and tried to balance her feelings for new boyfriend Piz and longtime love Logan.

Which fictional college would you want to attend?
