7 Must-See Classic Rock Bands On Tour

By Kayleigh Chevrier on February 27, 2015

Growing up, I’ve always been a huge lover of music. My siblings and I listened to everything from piano concertos played by my Lola (which means grandma in Tagalog) to classic rock blaring from my Dad’s record player. When I was in second grade, I remember waiting for my Dad to pick me up from school and I always knew when he was close because I could hear the muffled sounds of KISS blaring through the closed doors.  Like most kids, I think my parents definitely influenced a lot of the music I listen to today, including my favorite genre of music: Rock.

With the changing generation and the growing interest in popular music, Rock bands from the late 60’s into the 80’s have become a blast from the past except for the ones who savor the oldies. However, just because rock music may appear as ancient history, it doesn’t mean it’s true! In fact, here are 7 Classic Rock bands you must see still touring all over the country!

 1. Rush

Rush, a Canadian rock band formed in 1968, plans to start their party May 30, 2015, to celebrate Rush’s 40th anniversary with their R40 LIVE Tour . Head bang and fiercely strum your air guitar and air drums with Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart as they play famous hits like “Tom Sawyer,” “YYX,” “Seven Cities of Gold” and more. Seeing Rush in concert definitely promises a good time, even if you are the youngest one there.

2. Boston

Perhaps most identified by their big hit, “More Than A Feeling,” Massachusetts born rock band Boston will embark on their 2015 tour starting April 30. Celebrate 40 years of Boston and sing along to hits like “Amanda,” “Don’t Look Back,” and “Peace of Mind” with other fans that may have seen the group in their prime back in the 1970’s.

3. AC/DC

Perhaps the most famous rock band, or the most identifiable contributors to the rock genre, AC/DC, will kick off its 2015 tour at the Coachella Music Festival, on April 10.  Come hear classic headbangers like “Back in Black,” “Hells Bells,” and “Highway to Hell” sung by the group itself rather than that one guy who sings AC/DC at your local karaoke bar.

4. Blue Öyster Cult

Another American Rock band, Blue Öyster Cult will start its 2015 tour this weekend, February 28. Yell the customary, “MORE COWBELL,” made famous by the popular SNL skit featuring Will Ferrell, as the band starts to play its hit, “Don’t Fear the Reaper.” Take notes when Eric Bloom sings “Burnin’ for You” so you can snag a perfect score the next time you play Rock Band.

 5. Mötley Crüe

One of the best-selling rock bands of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide, Mötley Crüe, will start their Final Tour on May 9 to the end of December. Become a part history as the last to hear them play hits live like “Smokin’ in the Boys Room,” Dr. Feelgood,” and “Girls, Girls, Girls.” I know I’ll be begging my Dad to take me with him to their final concert celebrating over 30 years of great music. It’ll be something to tell the grandchildren.

 6. Heart

Though most of the aforementioned bands have been men, sister power duo, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Seattle-born band Heart have blown the minds of rock buffs since 1970. Heart will kick off its 2015 US Tour with other rock femme fatale, Joan Jett, this weekend. Come witness the magic of Ann Wilson’s crystal clear voice as she belts out crowd favorites like “Barracuda,” “Magic Man,” and “Crazy for You” alongside Nancy’s sweet,  sweet, guitar skills. Don’t miss the chance to watch these ladies kill it on stage. I’ve seen them play live many times and every time is better than the last.

7. Journey

Known for their most popular song “Don’t Stop Believin’,” San Francisco band Journey plans to stomp the yard with their 2015 US Tour with The Steve Miller Band.  Despite facing many obstacles throughout the years, Journey has always found a way to overcome them and deliver a powerful performance no matter where they go. Don’t be that Journey fan who only knows “Don’t Stop Believin’.” See them live and fall in love with their many other showstoppers like “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’,” “Be Good To Yourself,” and “When Did I Lose Your Love.”

Although I’ve only mentioned seven rock bands, there are still several famous groups touring and putting on concerts everywhere in the world. Going to a rock concert is a great experience, not to mention a great bonding activity for you and your parents. Don’t let the classic rock genre become a thing of the past. Instead, delve into the music that made your grandparents scream at your parents to turn down. Immerse yourself in one of the most incredible time periods that influenced our history of music. Who knows? Our generation may be the one to bring it back. See you at the concert! Party on!
